My experience is that nothing works on rust. It is best to save seed
and/or root a cutting of the infected plant from the "budwood" at the
base of the stalks. I have had some success with dipping the whole plant
is a weak bleach solution (for cuttings only, obviously), but I haven't
had much luck with any type of spray. It is also important to cook the
soil where infected plants were growing with clear plastic laid down over
wet soil if you want to grow new ones in the same place. I think that
warmer than normal winter and spring weather brings rust on and that any
type of overhead watering makes it spread.
