English Lavendar

I planted some English lavender in late April, early May. I planted them in
my front yard hosta bed, thinking they would look really nice behind the
hostas. Well, they haven't grown much. I think the hostas came up so fast
and early that they are blocking all of the sun from the lavender. Does
lavender do well the first year? Should I move it? If I should move it,
should I do it now or wait until fall or next spring? any and all
suggestions are appreciated.
On a weather note, it was another beautiful day here in Columbus, OH. High
only about 85 and a nice breeze.
