Golly gee! I had the grower's phone number fall into my life with
yesterday's mail. Called, and the mystery plant is 'Ratibida pinnata' !
Related to Prairie Coneflower, 'Ratibida columnifera'.
'R. columnifera' :
Alternate leaves to 5" long, pinnately lobed into lanceolate, coarsely
toothed segments. Bright yellow flower heads with drooping ray flowers on
long stems. Disk is 1/2 to 1" cone. Errect finely branched, 2-3' tall and
18" wide. Blooms in summer. Native to dry NA praries. Grow in full sun,
in very well drainned soil. Hardy zones 4-9. Use in sunny border or
meadow.
'Ratibida pinnata' :
Taller, 3-5' with larger leaves and flowers.
Have it in full sun, but right next to the drip irrigation. So far, so
good.
