Tell me I'm not the only one!
I caved in to my compulsion to re-organize the garden this weekend,
despite it's being the worst possible time of year to move plants and
despite the gorgeous, hot, sunny day (at least the border was in the
shade by the time I got going). I thought I'd be able to hold out until
autumn, but to no avail! I'm out to prove that perennials actually have
feet. The poor things never get to stay still for more than a season in
my garden!
A boring single pale pink rugosa rose that was planted by previous
owners got the heave-ho (I gave it 3 years to "grow on me") and I
migrated several overcrowded perennials (coreopsis "Mayfield Giant",
campanula persicfolia & nepata I-forget-the-species, japanese iris) into
the space. Okay, so they'll probably suffer and not do well for a
while, but they weren't looking too happy squashed under a huge blooming
heliopsis anyway - I always pack too much into a small space. Besides,
I'll be in my last 2 months of pregnancy by autumn and may not have
quite the energy and mobility that I have now. Nice to have a good
excuse!
BTW, I've decided campanula persicfolia is one of my fav perennials.
The mature one (that I didn't move) has been blooming from 2-3 foot
spikes for a full month so far with no signs of slowing down. Lovely
blue flowers that work well with just about anything - yellow or white
"daisies", pink or red monarda, stately delphiniums, airy heuchera...
Can't wait for the rest of my c. persicfolia to grow up! Maybe I'll
have to let them actually grow roots.
Happy gardening,
