I like the use of orange in the border, especially with purple and white.
I also use a lot of yellow for that very same reason. Using yellow with
the "blue" flowers makes them seem even more blue, plus it lightens the
darker tones. I'm starting to gather reds for the same reason. I'm
beginning to like the shock factor...pastels just don't always fit the
bill. I'll keep the pastels with the roses, but turn the other side of the
yard into a riot of color.
One of the prettiest gardens I've seen was one featured in a Country
Gardener magazine a year ago. A man who used his garden to inspire his
hobby of weaving had a patch of orange, hot pink, red, and purple. Sounds
crazy, but the picture just popped out at you! The resulting tapestry he
wove from that patch was to die for.
Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And since I'm the one who's
going to be working in that garden the most, I want to have something that
I love working in.
