Slugs and aesthetics

This may be a stupid comment, but....
I am picturing everyone's yards...... filled with beautiful flowers and
shrubs, but also peppered with bowls of beer, chunks of soap, sheets of
copper, and barriers of rock salt and diatomaceous earth.
At some point, won't all of these home remedies make the place look
pretty junky?? Might a little "flake" slug bait take care of the
problem more quickly and 'look' better, all at the same time?
Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to picture this, and
thinking that a carefully planned garden display could certainly be
ruined by some of these "extraneous" items.
