Re: Peat moss
Peat may be a bit off topic, but I think it is well worth the discussion,
so please allow me an additional post.
Yes, you are all correct that there are far more accessible,
environmentally friendly materials for soil amendment purposes than peat.
ANY organic material that is composted is absolutely wonderful as soil
amendment and should be used as much as possible.
In my gardening, the only time I use peat is as part of my mixtures for
starting seeds and for potted plants. (In fact, when I asked for
alternatives to peat, it never occured to me that some of you would
interpret it as being for garden beds). What else have folks been
successful using as the organic/humic component for potting mix and seed
starting mixes?
Amazing what we gardeners find to discuss. Its what makes these
discussions so interesting.
