Just don't save the pods alone. California poppies have a very efficient
system to disperse themselves. A friend once gave me a seed pod for a red
California poppy, and I set it on my dashboard. Forgot to take it inside.
Next day, as I'm driving through traffic, the seed pod exploded, hurling
tiny seeds all over the car. The explosion sounded like a cap pistol, and
startled heck out of me. No, I'm sad to say I did not retrieve the seeds.
