First, Doug, thank you for your prompt and very thorough & helpful
response. I had no idea about the peat and had been using it since I
first tried rooting cuttings. I agree it would be easier to stick the
cuttings in pots.
Devon, I must tell you first that I am a garden fanatic, but a naive one
being self taught and only having a couple years of learning. I soon
realized I need more plants than I had budget, and wanted to do cuttings
. I travel and needed something a little lower maintenance to tend my
cuttings when I'm on the road.
I ordered an automatic timer from VJ Grower's Supply in Charlotte and
ordered mist heads, inline filter, & control valve from Drip Works of
California. I then built a wooden bench (please don't flame me, but
it's made out of treated lumber) which I put behind the garage in a
shaded spot that gets lightly dappled sun. The mist heads come as PVC
saddles that connect to 1/2" PVC. I made a PVC frame to space the heads
every square foot (according to Drip Works guy) and suspended it from a
higher shelf above the bench's cutting surface with light chain. The
PVC frame is connected by hose to the control valve giving me flexibiity
to raise or lower the mist heads above the cuttings. I put plastic over
the top of the bench structure to keep out rain. To raise humidity I
might tent the whole bench in plastic, but I thought with the high heat
& humidity in Georgia, I could get away without it.
You can e-mail me privately if you wanted to ask any further questions
that might not be in the scope of the list. Doug, thanks again.
