Don, I have one of these guys in the ground (amended sand with part day
sun, next to the eastern exposure of the house) for the last several years.
I was going to pull it out this year because it has never bloomed and was
badly infested with ants and aphids. It must have known that its life was
at stake because this spring it suddenly put out lots of growth and is
blooming for the first time. Why the change? I dunno, but it is doing
great now. I expect that you could cut yours back this fall and have good
bloom next spring, but I'd definintely recommend a 5 gal or larger pot.
