Hi -
Just returned from a week's vacation to find my garden looking
pretty shabby. The weeds had grown very nicely - and those asiatic
garden beetles have been having a feast! NOt only have they eaten away
more of the butterfly bush, but now the basil is almost skeletonized as
well as one of my asters while other plants are also showing signs of
heavy munching. As long as there were only a few lacy leaves I thought
no big deal but now things are looking ratty (not to mention no basil
leaves to harvest) and I am concerned that the plants may suffer from
lack of green surface area.
I read somewhere that going out at night and hand picking over
some period of time would reduce the population as the females would not
have enough time to lay their eggs.
Any advice out there on what to do?
This is only my second season gardening and I keep gett=ing
discouraged - especially after seeing the gardens at the places we were
staying. I was all inspired and then came home and saw my weed patch...
