I had made my selection (one variety of each) but based on
your advice I'll go back and look at the catalogue. One
thing does bother me. If one is a member of the lily
family, and the other iris, will they succumb to lily
beetle? (I don't know if you have the same beetle in the
States as here. I've only seen them once, a long while ago.
I think it was red - if you see it you have to catch it with
your fingers very quickly and kill it because they're very
smart at scuttling back down into the earth. Does that
sound familiar to anyone?). A friend gave me an iris in
early spring. I was really excited when the flower buds
came up but none of them flowered. Each bud was eaten off
just below the bud in a very clean bite. This was not slug
damage - I know what that looks like. Someone suggested I
might have lily beetle. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of
money on these bulbs, only to have their flowers bitten off.
Does anyone think they are likely to succumb?
