Barb-
I'm not sure - my 'Sun Gold' is dying from the ground up---strangest thing
I've ever seen. I've had a buddleia planted towards the back of the bed once
and he was so big he began to turn sideways---I think he had more foliage and
bloom than roots to support him. When he did that I simply dug my hole
bigger and a little deeper and put a stake on him for awhile. Maybe this is
what you could try with your 'Black Knight'....maybe he is just looking for a
little support. You can also cut those tips off-----this will encourage
another flush of blooms and for every one dying bud you cut you should get
two blooms :o).
Good luck
