gaura

Okay folks, since we're talking about gaura...

I planted a couple (siskiyou pink) this spring, and they took off like
wildfire...bloomed their little hearts out from late April to early June.
Then the aphids moved in....fortunately, after dousing with insecticidal
soap, they seem to have moved on.

Anyway, right now, I have fairly nice looking basal foliage, and lots of
skinny little stems sticking up. Should they be cut back to the basal
foliage after bloom? Since they bloomed from the base upward, it was
difficult to know when/how to deadhead them. But they look pretty odd now!

Yep, I am impressed; this plant is definitely a keeper. Another plant I'm
growing for the first time this year is threadleaf coreopsis. I have
"moonbeam" and rosea on opposite sides of a bed, and they look lovely. I
like the "airy" appearance of the plants. And the great thing was, I bought
a gallon "moonbeam" and then divided it into four plants when I set it out.
All have flourished in filled in. They're next to lamb's ears (stachys
lanata) and the contrast is great.
