I have two hardy hibiscus, supposedly dwarf, although they're three feet tall
this year, and one has a deep maroon flower and the other a white flower with
a red center and pink streaks in the flower.
This year, the maroon plant has some stems with white flowers and red centers
(although no pink streaks) and the white plant has, you guessed it, some
maroon flowers. Is this typical?
Now, I do not deadhead at the end of the season, so I guess it's possible
that seeds have fallen into the base of the original plant and germinated
producing these new plants within a plant.
Has anyone else experienced this and do you know the exact cause?
