Hello Claire,
No shortage of blooms for August in part shade. A few of my favorites
are the Aconitums in yellow, blue, white or bi-color. The Cimicifuga White
Pearls is a favorite in flower and foliage. Swamp Milkweed is good. Asters,
of course, in dwarfs or tall in quite a few different color possibilities
all with a yellow eye. Turtlehead in white or pink. The Lobelia species, red
or blue. Obedient Plant, and finally Toadlily.
Incidentally, keep those Balloon Flowers deadheaded aand you wil have
blooms in September.
Let us know what you bring home from the nursery...

It seems like very little is blooming now (at least in my garden.) The day
lillies are just about done. Even coral cells has stopped. My evening
primroses are finished too! Yuck. Only a few long phlox, obedient plants
and one stunning deep blue balloon flower remain. I think I'm heading to
the garden center to buy whatever is blooming!
Does anyone have any good ideas for August bloomers for partial shade?
It sounds like that hot humid weather you're all describing is what is
coming our way for the rest of the week. We had a gorgeous weekend and
early week though so I can't complain.
