Hello Valerie,
It is hotter and dryer than the inside of an attic stored gourd on this
side of the river as well.
Some of what is in bloom in spite of the hot dry weather is the Balloon
Flowers. Have several in the garden from dwarf to tall and in double white
to double blue. Tall Phlox in a clean white is doing just as well as the old
wild things out in the field in pink. Obedient Plant in white is doing well.
Lots of Hosta blooms that will be there throughout most of the summer and
early fall... if it cools down a bit.
The Gentians are finishing up early this year with all the heat but put
on a great show. Still some blooms left on G. paradoxia and G. dahurica.
Yellow digitalis that were cut back are now sending out the second set of
blooms. Martagon Lilium henryii in brilliant orange with brown spots has
fallen over into the Delphinium exaltatum with lavender-blue flowers.
Two Hardy Geraniums are still perking along. mavis Simpson in pink and
the Meadow Geranium in red with a black eye. Old Bouncing Bet is about to
finish up in double form. Butterfly Weed is brilliant now and Summer Sweet
shrub Hummingbird is just opening in white.
My partner, JoAn, has big pots all over the patio area with a mix of
herbs, perennials and annuals that look good.
