I was shocked to have a triphylla hyb. fuchsia overwinter in an exposed area this year. Its about 8 inches high and ready to bloom. These fuchsias are more tropical in origin than most other fuchsia species and are very sensitive to cold. Our minimum temps last winter were -5F or about -20C. It did have a good snow cover. I read that this fuchsia was root hardy only to Zone 8! Had a Agastasche cana return as well. My bletilla (sp) orchid came back up but is too weak now to bloom. Anybody have any luck with bletilla orchids in Zone 6? I agree that the only way to test plants is to try them yourself. I had a hardy camellia that was suppose to be hardy to minus 12 F but has only a tiny sprout left on it. Crape-Myrtle "Hopi" is suppose to be stem hardy to minus 10 F (-23C) but it completely died out while other crape myrtles did not even die back to the ground.
