Astrantia needs semi-shade to all shade and must be grown in moist soil. It
also needs a few years to establish in one place. During the drought years
it disappeared completely in my garden as we do not water entire beds. Two
years underground and it came back last summer (rained nearly every day) and
bloomed in a large healthy clump. Now I have a tag by it telling me to leave
it alone in case it does not want to come up in a dry year.
