Nan,
I'm also crazy about purple foliage. We grow a lot of smoke bushes in
Colorado and I don't know how they would do in So. Cal. But I'm currently in
love with an herb - perilla. It gets about 2 1/2 ft tall in full sun, keeps
its color beautifully and doesn't melt out like purple basil.
