I have three Carol Mackie Daphnes, one Somerset and two Daphne Cneorum. I
have found them to be fast growing - I got them all as little babies no
more than 5 inches tall and
with in four years they were quite large - 2 feet by 3 feet. The first
one I got 8 years ago
is now about 3 feet tall and 6 feet across. I have had very little
problems with them. All are in full sun except for one of the daphne
cneorums which is in part shade. One is growing in sub soil that had been
amended with well rotted sheep manure. The others are in regular soil.
The somerset will rebloom in the summer pretty reliably. We have had some
bad droughts here and I rarely water them. When they start looking like
the drought is affecting them - the leaves start falling off - then I
water. I haven't lost one yet. They are one of my favorite shrubs. I do
understand that they do not like to be moved so be sure to put them in
their permenant spot. I live in western Massachusetts in zone 5.
