Hello Bill & Claire,
    Mertensia is one among my many favorite natives. Especially when it comes into
bloom with Uvualria.... the merrybells in yellow. Are you aware that there are
over 40 species of Mertenia to play with... not to mention various forms such as
the white blooming, or pink blooming, local virginica. There are species with
almost evergreen foliage, cobalt-blue blooms during the summer rather than very
early spring, etc. Some have foliages in a blue almost as nice as the blooms.
    Not easy to locate, but certainly worth seeking out.
