stachys. I discovered last year that it
looked a lot better where I cut it back hard in the spring, but I didn't
experience quite as much dead foliage last year as I did this year. Maybe
it's because we had such a wet spring.
Does it need to be divided very often? I'm really bad about digging and
dividing plants...I like to buy 'em and plant 'em, but once they're in the
ground, I'm pretty lousy at maintenance! >>
Stachys divided? I think this is hard to do as it has a long creeping stem
that sends up shoots along the way, the stems crossing over each other. When
it get messy looking, I just pull it all out and replant the best looking
parts cutting off all the long creeping stem - a few roots will do.
Stachys (lambs ears, byzantina) may look better in your garden if you mulch
it with pebbles or a few inches of plain sand. When the leaves touch wet
soil or are exposed to too much humidity the plant tends to rot from the
bottom up. You are pretty far south of us and may experience more humidity.
