Isabelle,
I have never had one survive let alone flower. Yet, about twenty miles from
me along the river they do grow well and bloom.
I do not know if this is true but I have been told by local gardeners that
this is one of those woody plants that need to be parented by plants from our
zone. Cercis canadenis and all dogwoods (Cornus) are others. How to know
whether you have purchased a southern plant seems impossible.
Hydrangeas root very easily and cuttings strike nearly 100% so if you found a
healthy one near you, you could beg a few cuttings and try that.
