That would have been my guess too! I got a tiny little plug, ripped out 3+ square feet of it the following spring, threw it on the hill (not planted it on the hill) - THUG, major thug. Sure looks pretty in the spring though!

Did you have any Euphorbia cyparissias? Cyparissias can be rather .....mmmm..........invasive......and can spread by seeds and stolens.
There are one or two named forms, one is 'Fen's Ruby'. Can't recall the others.
