I assume you get lake effect snow.  You have more possibilities for a stone
wall that someone in my climate because you can grown many alpines and rock
on a wall.  The hard part is keeping them from dying in the summer before
they are established.  You should Visit Wrightmans Alpines near London to
see what your possibilities are.  Many plants would do better for you than

You should have excellant lucj from just planting seeds because the seedling
part that is difficult is the summmeer.  Joining NARGS or British Columbia
rock garden club will get you tons of seed for almost free.
