Hi Joanie,
I've been getting into other Vinca varieties lately and am really
surprised by some of the options out there! I think one of my favorites
for shady areas is 'Honeydew' -- the foliage is a chartreuse to
key lime pie green that really makes things pop around it. I'm
providing a link to the plants at my nursery, but not as a sales
pitch. They just have photos and descriptions that I can't send here:

They're at the bottom of the perennials section.

I wouldn't give up just yet on the hosta. My Mom (who lives in the
SW suburbs of Chicago) has two So Sweet hosta that have the same kind
of affectation on its leaves. They part of a parent plant that was
divided into eight plants last fall, yet these are the only two that
show any signs. We've seen similar damage from early frost that
carried on through the season but was gone in subsequent growing seasons.
So don't go tearing everything out just yet. Instead, be careful and
sanitize your tools and let those plants do their thing for a year
until you're sure.
As far as other plants, how much sun/moisture does the spot get? I'm
thinking that Pulmonaria cultivars like 'Majeste' or coral bells
might work well as foliage accents. There are also other plants
like bleeding heart and sedges that could add extra color and texture.
