Japanese beetles and tent catapillers

Evidently, they do eat foliage as well as flowers. 
 
2 weeks ago, for the first time ever, I noticed something eating the rose  
buds and young flowers. It was a tent catapiller. I'm crushed to learn that.  
We've had them a mile south of our property but never have I noticed them here.  
I guess it was just a matter of time.
