Generally speaking, I don't think it needs a ton of water once it's established. You might want to give it more in the beginning, but make them good, deep waterings so the roots aren't tempted to stay near the surface. And, of course, mulch is going to be your friend. If you can amend the whole bed to be loamy then you're going to have an easy time, but if you just make a hole for this plant with amendments then the roots are never going to move outside of that hole.
