reference book

Hi, everybody!

I am a beginning gardener - growing perennials and annuals. I live in south
central PA - zone 6, I think. I would like to buy a good, general (but
complete) reference book on perennials. I would like to be able to "look up"
plants that I buy or see at my local nursery. I have some "smaller" books,
but I am not finding some of the plants, and the web searches don't always
have much info. I am considering "Perennials for American Gardeners" or the
"Rodale Encyclopedia (I think that's the title)". I would like to know what
you all would recommend - either of these or something else? TIA
