They have little brown flecks on them, leaves, stems, flowers and
buds. Leaves start to curl and dry up. When I first noticed it,
the plants were covered with a fuzzy white coating, like a
cottonwood tree had shed all over them.
The local nursery recommended a fungicide, and I dosed them, but
I lost the red/yellow one anyway. It just shriveled up and
died. The white one seems resistant, it's still budding and
blooming though it's still got some brown flecks all over it.
I had three at the beginning of spring, but the third one
shriveled and died a few weeks after it came up. Bought another
one yesterday, and thought I'd plant it somewhere else until the
white one is healthy.
Was it really a fungus? Nursery lady guessed it was grey mold.
I was so bummed. I love columbines. This is the first garden I've
ever been able to grow them in, and these are/were my very first
plants. Thanks for your interest!
