Generally, yes. However, it seems that some columbines look good for a long
time while others seem to turn ratty as soon as they are done blooming. Cut
them back and see what happens. I try to cut off leaves that are showing
evidence of leaf miners when I see them.
I usually cut back the foliage of anything that looks ratty. Most things
respond within a couple of weeks and are all the happier for it.
I have a combination right now that wasn't planned, but looks wonderful. In
front, I have a Campanula that is quite floppy, maybe C. poscharshkiana ?,
Achemilla mollis, Campanula 'Tellham Beauty' and Corydalis lutea. It almost
takes my breath away and it was just one of those flukes. And all this is
in quite a lot of shade!
