One note:
Some of the packing peanuts nowadays are made of a biodegradable material.
Whenever I get boxes filled with them, I dump them into a 30 gallon
garbage bag and add a quart of water -- within 15 minutes everything
compacts into a mass about the size of a basketball.
Obviously these wouldn't do as a filler for pots. :) I therefore suggest
placing one of your packing peanuts in a glass of water before using a
whole bunch -- if nothing happens in a minute, you should be safe.
