I, too, am a first year gardener and I asked this same question about a week
ago. Buy annuals for color this first year and be patient! I have learned
that some of the things I have are late bloomers, mid-June/July, some may
not bloom at all the first year. Go to archives at
http://www.mallorn.com/lists/perennials and look at posts around June 9 for
some encouragement. Keep hope alive!
