You all are giving too much credit to the garden rather than the timing
and skill of the photographer! Allen Paterson writes in "Designing a
Garden":
"Glossy magazines show borders of incredible beauty. One wants
something similar. We all have a tendency to expect too much of
a given space -- it's those magazines again. (Thank heavens for
the camera. Even at home, it cleverly records moments of perfection
and frames perfect pictures that eliminate next door's washing.
Anyone can do it.)"
I've taken pictures of our garden that you'd swear belonged in a
magazine. I guarantee that the gardens don't all look that good all the
time, or even most of the time! Be of good cheer and enjoy the process
and those moments of perfection!
Mr. Paterson's book is excellent reading all the way through, by the
way.
Helpful, cheerful, amusing, inspiring -- and realistic! He is, or was,
the director of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton and Burlington,
Ontario, but he writes of his own home gardening experiences.
