Re: Canna's

HI pottsey!

yes, sorry to say canna's do need to be dug every fall and the bulbs or
tubers cleaned of ALL dirt (but don't wash them) and stored in peat for
the winter in a area that doesn't freeze I found that by planting
about 30 tubers last spring when i dug them I had over 100 nice tubers.
of course I didn't need nearly that many to replant the bed on one side
of my pool. I have hosta shasta daisy and several other good plants in
that particular bed and the border is snow on the mt( aegopodium, which
takes a little effort to keep at about a 6 in. wide border.)

when you get around to planting them in the spring you can reuse the peat
and add a Little cow manure to the soil. I have many flower beds but
that is one of my favorite

My mother has left some of the tubers in the ground all winter and after
mulching if the winter isn't too severe--sometimes one or two will
reappear in the spring.

good luck!
