It's just the different strokes for different folks syndrome. My NGP
(non-gardening partner) husband, after nearly 25 years, still only
recognizes Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Boxwood, Daylilies and Hosta - oh, and
he does know ivy and dogwoods. His feet expand 3 sizes when he gets within
2 feet of a plant :-) He also used to completely dismiss new beds with a
deprecating "oh those little things". That was then. Now, he doesn't make
disparaging remarks, because he has finally realized just how fast plants
do grow. Now, he complains about that jungle....just can't satisfy some
folk :-)
Anyway, give your wife some time and when your garden starts to need
thinning out, she will quit asking you when it's gonna look like a flower
garden! Some partners just never share some of your interests and that's
that. It would be nice, but it's not in the cards, so just enjoy what you
do have in common and talk gardens with all of us on the net. That's what
I do and it works for me.
