Anyone know of a shrub or bush list that might answer my question?

Around here many people call Euonymus alatus, Winged Euonymus, "burning bush".
Does your shrub have corky "wing" appendages on the stems? Does it get
yellow-green flowers (not showy) in the spring? If so, that's what it is.
But I have never heard of one that didn't turn bright red in the fall. They
are very soil tolerant, pH adaptable, and even show fall color in heavy shade.
They do show stress if too dry, though. Drought stress would cause the
leaves to brown and fall off. If you have Euonymus alatus, you might want to
try keeping it watered in the summer and mulching it to conserve moisture.
While we're off topic: another great red-flowering shrub or tree is Aesculus
pavia, Red Buckeye. --Janis
