Subject: Late summer/fall flowers
Hi y'all
My spring garden is in full bloom and I am thinking about late summer and
fall. By late July, my garden is way past its peak, so this year my goal
is to plant perennials that will flower into the fall (and maybe winter).
I am in the San Diego area, so we have a long dry summer and fall. What do
you recommend?
/ My best (and almost only) late summer/fall perennial has been the Purple
Dome aster. (I am in north-central Kentucky, certainly a very different
climate from yours but we do have hot, dry weather that time of the year.)
This aster needs no support, blooms a long time, makes fairly pleasing cut
flowers, seems resistant to bugs and mildew, etc. This spring I have
planted some other flowers which I hope will be providing some variety for
late season bloom, but more later on those, if, that is, any are left to
report on, after The Unidentified Scourge has eaten its way through them.
