Val -
Sounds wonderful----do you get HGTV - there use to be a show dedicated to
parties and when they had a garden party they did unbelievable things,
simply. Like tying a silk wisteria vine into an arbor covered in with a
non-blooming plant.....and I know you've seen the way they coat vodka bottles
in a blacket of ice w/flower or citrus...neat neat stuff.
Okay - about the subject of pest at the party:
We have a place here, Garden Ridge Pottery, that sells teki stakes that you
fill with citrinella and place in the garden...not only do they keep the
mesquito's away but they also provide evening lighting in the garden. I'm
sure a place around you probably sells those.
Off has a product (that is not suppose to smell bad) that is a coil set into
what looks to be terra cotta, at least the color, could actually be some sort
of plastic. They can actually be placed on the tables.
Something else she could do for her guest, you know how you set up a table
for refreshments...you could set up a cute little table with skintastic
bottles on them...may not be the prettiest thing but I'm sure your guest will
approve when they aren't being bit. I buy the one that is scentless.
What about trying to purchase some of the herbs that repell insects:
Scented geraniums, pennyroyal and I think there may be some others--I could
look further into this if you want I have several herb books......you could
actuall put these in a nice decorated basket or a terra cotta pot with a bow
of rafia and dried flowers....that would look pretty and serve your purposes.
And if you wanted color in the plants you could either add fresh cut flowers
with those little water holder spikes that you can buy at a florist shop or
hobby shop or simply use silk. I once received a basket full of tropical
greens with fresh daisy dispursed in them......it was the cutest.
Do you have Pier 1's? Maybe they have inscense you can burn that will repel
insects and they simply still into a potted plant.
Well - I don't know if this helps...hope so. If you want me to find more
herbs let me know. I remember running across an herb site by accident
too---I could try to find it again.
Good luck and I hope ya'll have a wonderful party.
Kemberly
