Re: Begonia grandis

A definite "keeper". In fact, once you get it going, you will have it, as
it spreads via it's little bulbils quite happily in shade. Tolerates quite
dry shade for me, but, of course, is larger and lusher with moist soil. In
TX, would think you would have to make sure it gets water as your "dry" is
even drier than my "dry". Appears late in spring - May for me, probably
earlier for you. Very good plant to put with daffodils or other bulbs as
it comes along to hide their dying foliage. One of the many things I enjoy
about this plant is its ability to cascade gracefully as a tall edger. It
seems to know that it ought to do this when planted along an edge....I
don't know your cultivar, but you can hardly go wrong with B. grandis IMO.
My herd of deer, however, also enjoy it...so if you have deer problems,
beware.
