Dear Margaret,
You need to take another look at the index, especially the title on the first
page of the index. It is only an index of common names, such as "poppy" and
"opium poppy". Papaver is the genus name and there is no index of genus
names because they are all given in alphabetical order in the text. In
effect, then, the whole book is an index of scientific names!! So if you
look in the P's under Papaver, you will find Papaver somniferum. I know
because I jsut did it.
