Re: agapanthus

I can give a little info on this plant (it's also called "Lily of the Nile")
I fell in love with it in the White Flower Farm catalog, so ordered two of
the blue flower variety this spring. In the meantime awaiting this order
(which didn't arrive until early June), I purchased the white variety I just
happened upon at Lowe's. I planted it and kept it indoors until early June.
It had only about 5" of foilage and now has about 8". However the plants I
received from WFF was in a gallon container and had about 12" growth and buds
when it arrived. It is growing like mad and has about 8
long curvy stalks with the deep blue flowers blooming.
From this experience, I suspect the WFF was a 2-year plant, and Lowe's a 1 yr
plant. The literature which came with it did indicate it blooms better while
croweded
in it's pot and in my zone (Michigan 5) must be brought indoors for the
winter.
It is really beautiful and unique.
Hope this helps.
Nita
