It's my opinion too, Dean. The plants selected for perennial plant of the
year are, dare I say it, ordinary "garden variety" perennials. About the
only positive thing one could say about them is that you can buy them almost
anywhere; perhaps that's the purpose. I was also stunned by this year's
choice of a grass! Yes, it's a perennial grass, but hardly what we think of
when we think of perennials. I greet each year's announcement with a big
yawn. If the nursery trade takes the award seriously and propogates even
more of the winner of the year and the landscapers buy it and install in,
then it explains a lot about most of the landscaping we see, doesn't it?
