"Battle" isn't really a word I would associate with this plant.  As I said, the stems ramble along amongst the other plants -- this is NOT a groundcover candidate.  An average root will send forth 15-20 stems (more in older plants) each year.  If a stem ventures out into a path, you can gently veer the stem back into border.  If a stem ventures out onto the lawn, it gets trimmed by the
lawnmower (or your handy hand-shears).  I only used the 6' number because that's the farthest I've yet to see a stem venture from the root.
