Ginny I agree with you- that the yarrows make great plants for the sunny garden. Whenever I do a sunny planting the Yarrows get prim locations because of their reliable performance.

For Me a low maintenance sunny planting would include the Yarrows, Peony, Daylilies and the taller Campanulas and Asters for the fall.

Throw in a few spring and fall blooming bulbs and it's done.

If you have a long row to plant, what makes a nice show is to use the newer yarrow hybrids like Achillea X millefolium 'Colorado' or Achillea X millefolium 'Debutante'
They are shorter growing 15 inches to 2 feet, large flat flower tops in a very wide range of colors from tan, white, orange, red, even light bluish purple.
Foliage in soft and ferny. Keep them cut back after flowers peek and plants will bloom for 6-9 weeks or more. No pests except maybe spittle bugs. None spreading (maybe some seedlings here and there if you have bear ground or thin grass along the boarder) No need to fertilize and great cutting material.
