Jill,
One of the texts regarded as a "bible" by landscape designers is the Manual
of Woody Landscape Plants by Michael Dirr, retired prof from U. of Ga. He
also has several other volumes published plus a CD-ROM with photographs,
etc. It's one of my basic references.
