plant requirements/Alans trunk

Thanks, Marilyn, for the photo.  I have never seen this however it is 
probably not hardy this far north.  We have extreme heat and humidity in the 
summer but also extreme cold  and wind in the winter.  The extremes is why 
gardening is difficult in our area.  North of us it gets cold and stays cold 
but is also cooler in the summer.  But these are the conditions that corn 
loves thus our notoriety.
    Alan, I love your trunk.  I would love plants gushing over the sides.  
Also, your door is very attractive.
