A. 'Powis Castle' (Powys someplaces) is a good one. It is not hardy for me
so goes into the cellar with the stored pots or into a cold frame. I also
think this a beautiful plant. Here we need full sun for Artemesia.
A. 'Valerie Finnis' is also easy to buy and can be anyone of of a number of
things. It looks like Silver King/Queen. Be careful with Valerie, you might
get something else.
Silver King/Queen is a runner and will cover all of Texas if let loose, I am
sure. In the Heronswood catalog years back DH would list these plants as
free shipping, just tell him where you live and he would aim it in your
direction and it would grow to you.
Still, it is the basis for all those herbal wreaths and dries quite well. It
will grow where other thing fail, this along with the common Stachys. Such
an awful problem in borders but a beautiful plant.
I have never had A. vulgaris around here and don't know the difficulties with
it in zone 4 so I am going to watch the beautiful 'Oriental Limelight'
carefully.
Artemesias are some of my favorite garden plants. They enhance other plants
and fill spaces with great clouds of grey foliage.
