I've been lucky with lychnis coronaria and lychnis chalcedonica; the
first blooms deep cerise, very plentiful, and will bloom all summer, if
deadheaded; it is also called rose campion;
I've grown them from seed, and they take two years before blossoming;
so far, they have come back. I have them in every location: dry,
semi-shady, full sun, average garden soil.
The chalcedonica is also called "the Maltese Cross" and is a very bright
red.
